Tropical disturbance threatens Memorial Day weekend
Tropical disturbance threatens Memorial Day weekend May 23, 2018 - 2:14 pm
Forecasters are beginning to get a better idea of whatâs going to happen with a low pressure system thatâs on its way to the gulf. Invest 90L is being given about a 60 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Louisiana may be in store for a nasty Memorial Day.
âLooks like a landfall is likely t o occur somewhere between southeastern Louisiana and the panhandle of Florida sometime over the weekend. Or perhaps even as late as Monday which could essentially ruin the whole weekendâ.
The system is currently in the Caribbean Sea, and is on its way to the Gulf. Keim says we arenât at risk for any heavy winds or dangerous storm surge, but thereâs a good chance we could see a ton of rain.
âThe biggest concerns as noted are heavy rains to the tune of perhaps even five to ten inches which could occur anywhere in that regionâ.
Despite the threat of a rained out Memorial Day weekend and the potential for a troubling amount of rain, Keim says at least thereâs some good news.
âSome have it as a tropical depression at landfall while some of the others actually bring it all the way to a tropical storm, but I know that none of the models are really getting this thing up to hurricane strengthâ.Sumber: Google News | Liputan 24 Kepi
