Android Go Powered Nokia 1 Gets its First Price Cut

Nokia 1

The Nokia 1 is currently the cheapest Nokia smartphone running on Android. The device, which prominently features Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) alongside what HMD Global terms as personalized style with its myriad of interchangeable colourful xpress-on back covers.

At launch, the Nokia 1 launched with a price tag of Kes.9,500 which put it on the red line competing with its older, slightly more expensive, much better spec’d Nokia 2. Recently, the company has been facing tough competition with the likes of itel launching AndroidGo powered budget smartphones.

To increase its competitiveness, the Nokia 1 has received its first price cut, taking it down to Kes.7,999, an arguably more reasonable price. To recap, the Nokia 1 has the following to offer:

  • a 4.5″ IPS Display (480*854)
  • 5MP main camera and 2MP selfie shooter
  • 1GB RAM with 8GB internal storage expandable via MicroSD
  • MediaTek MT6737M Quad-core processor
  • Dual SIM capability with 4G connectivity
  • 2150mAh battery

As mentioned earlier, Nokia 1 runs on Android Oreo (Go edition) â€" this is a light-weight android version that is customized for devices with 1GB RAM or less. The software is designed to run faster while consuming less data, from the ground up.

The entry-level smartphone segment is one that is crowded with Transsion brands (itel, TECNO and Infinix), alongside a good number of other manufacturers such as X-Tigi and Fero. From my point of view, the Nokia 1 has its brand name to set it apart from the competition and with the new price, maybe it will attract more attention than it has been getting so far.
